self care – look good to feel good.

You ugly.

Okay, in reality, you’re probably not, but you could be a whole lot prettier.

Do you often feel like crap? Perhaps you’re depressed? Anxious? Self-conscious? And the list goes on.

Let me put on my Dr. Lara hat and tell you what your issue is.

While I don’t have a Ph.D., and sadly no, I can’t prescribe you any pills, I can tell you that how you feel has a direct correlation to how you look.

I’ve been super pretty, even beautiful, and I’ve also been ugly. How ugly you ask? Almost troll status in my opinion.

And you know what my mood effects and causes both. When I’m happy, I’m super pretty; I eat well, take care of myself, exercise. But when I’m sad, depressed, or anxious I’m U-G-L-Y af. I turn into a monster who doesn’t care how I look, what I eat, or if I even move from the couch.

When I take the time to put myself together a bit and do this thing called self-care I feel a million times better, and when I don’t I feel, look, and eat like shit. No joke.

It’s a vicious, vicious cycle that so many of us are living.

To feel good, you have to look good and to look good; you have to feel good. Got it?

Now, I’ve not perfected this, believe me, I currently look quite grotesque at the moment, I have learned a thing or two.

My number one rule: PRACTICE SELF-CARE. Yeah, that means taking care of YOU – mind, body, and soul and if that concept is too out there for you – take care of yourself emotionally, physically, mentally.

You have to make yourself a priority because no one else will.

You have to take the time to slap on makeup, take care of your skin, workout daily, eat some vegetables and fruits, occasionally, yes occasionally turn down dessert, and drink a sh*t ton of water.

But that’s not all. You need to take vitamins, make the time to meditate daily, have quiet time, unwind with a bath and a bottle glass of wine, talk to a shrink, dream, travel, get a hobby, work on your dreams, take me time, go on a vacation, shop till you drop, and on and on.

Looking at my rambles list you think that’s not hard, but honestly how much of those things DO YOU ACTUALLY ACCOMPLISH EACH WEEK?

Probably very few, which is why you’re miserable and ugly. If you aren’t taking care of you, you CAN’T properly take care of everything and everyone else in your life.

Looking good makes you feel better about yourself and feeling better about yourself makes you a whole lot prettier.

So, how do you start self-care?

Start small.  Make a list of what, in a perfect world, you could do every day for YOURSELF.

Then do one or two of those entirely selfish things a day! Spend 5 minutes meditating or spend 20 minutes doing your hair and makeup. Make them a habit and add-on from there.

Grow from there until you’re a completely selfish-bitch who not only looks hot but feels fantastic as well.

Remember, I’m with you on this journey. As you grow, I grow, and eventually we all get the life we’ve always wanted. It’s better to be late to the party than to never show up. Yes, I’m just that annoying optimistic 😉

Do you think you need to look good to feel good?

xo, Lara
