how to get your hair healthy…fast!

how to get healthy hair

Healthy, beautiful hair is #goals but getting healthier, longer hair is easier said than done. We don’t realize how much internal and external stress we put on our hair every day. Over the years I’ve become a connoisseur of healthy hair and have worked out a winning formula for getting your healthiest hair ever.

Now that I’m done tooting my horn lets’ stop the bullshit and get on with my sage wisdom.

First things first get some amazing hair vitamins and not just one kind. I take 3-4 different hair vitamins a day. Personally, I’m obsessed with Biotin it’s my number one bitch, but Viviscal comes in at a close second only due to cost.  Biotin is super affordable and works like magic, while Viviscal is hands down the best hair supplement out there, but they are pricey.

Another tip is to make sure you are taking care of your hair and avoiding damage causing habits. Apply a deep conditioner to your hair at minimum 2-3 times a week to help strengthen, hydrate and repair.  Prevent further hair damage by limiting bad hair habits like excessive heat and coloring.  I also highly suggest you stop putting your hair in ponytails every day because that habit causes more breakage than you think.

One of the most important tips I can give you is to relax! Stress causes all sorts of health issues. Mental and physical stress can take a toll on your hair and even make it fall out. I suggest meditating or finding other stress-reducing activities to keep stress at bay. I have had my hair fall out from stress; it’s not fun. If you need help finding ways to de-stress check out this post.

Finally make sure you are eating healthy and getting enough fruits, veggies, good fats and water into your diet. What you put in your body affects how your skin, nails, and hair look and feel. So if eating healthier means a prettier you than I’d jump on that train!

all about eyes

“My under eye bags are designer,” said every basic bitch ever.

But really, my under bags are designer preferably Chanel. Just kidding, not really, though.

I cannot tell a lie, and the truth is I have pretty freaking amazing skin. My skin is like Mary Poppins, practically perfect in every way.

The practically part is where the trouble lies.

I have clear skin like seriously I hardly ever get pimples. I’ve maybe had 20 pimples my whole life. Kill me right?

While I don’t have pimples or any other major skin issues, I do have serious under eye circles and bags.

Now the bags come and go, depending on how much sleep I get and my salt intake but the circles they are genetic and NEVER go away.

I’ve probably tried every under eye cream, serum, and mask known to man but the only thing that seems to help my under eye circles are under eye patches.

I like the finer things in life, so I tend to go for the fancy, uber-expensive, sell your first born under eye patches that make you think why am I paying this much for patches to put under my eyes, am I crazy?

But the truth is they work. Damn it. Why do they have to work so well?!?!

However, as a beauty aficionado, I have found some lovely, and just as fabulous but much less expensive under eye patches from Korean skincare brand Tony Moly.

I mean my under eye circles deserve the best after all.

Currently, my top three favorite under eye patches are as followed.

But first, let me say I am completely obsessed with the Sephora Instant Hydrogel Eye Mask, which is too amazing for words. Trust me, try and you’ll love it.

Top 3 under eye patches.

1.    Tony Moly’s My Little Pet Eye Patch. They are cheap; I’m talking $4.50 cheap. They are cooling, brightening and won’t break the bank. #Winning

2.    Tatcha’s Luminous Deep Hydration Revitalizing Eye Mask. They are pricey as f*^k but work well. The patch goes up higher on the sides than most standard eye patches allowing the patch to target your crow’s feet, which I am way too young to have.

3.    Skyn Iceland’s Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels which are #holygrail status. I look like I’ve slept for a month straight when I use these.

Now that I’ve told you my secrets go out and buy them and we can be twinsies!

How do you deal with puffy eyes? Have you tried under eye patches?

on Wednesday we wear pink

mean girls on Wednesday we wear pink

Pink is a powerful color that evokes femininity. Whether it’s bright, muted, or pastel, the color pink makes a statement. For me pink is the best color ever, I mean it’s just so fetch, right?

In honor of Wednesday and my love of pink everything, I thought I’d share my favorite pink lipsticks.

MAC Brave – Is the perfect 90’s pink with brown undertones. I’m obsessed with this lipstick; it’s the best everyday color that looks natural and goes with everything.

YSL Lingerie Pink – I have a love/hate relationship with this color. It’s a beautiful bubble-gum pink, but it’s hit or miss for me – sometimes it looks great but most of the time it washes me out. I keep it around because the color is beautiful and the packaging is to die for. Plus the scent is incredible; YSL has the best-smelling lipsticks hands down.

Nuance Lotus Pink* – This is a new favorite, and I’m completely in love with this pink. It’s the perfect bright pink and works well on pale skin tones like myself, but I think this is a universally flattering shade that would work well on any skin tone. The formulation of this lipstick is so creamy, and the staying power is off the charts. Love love love.

Chanel Romance – Ah, I’ve had quite the journey with this lipstick color – it’s been a staple for years now, and I love it as much now as I did when I first bought it. Romance is a sheer lipstick that can be built up from a subtle rose pink to a brighter Barbie pink. Romance is the perfect multitasking lipstick that can easily take you from day to night.

Revlon Blushed – This lipstick is super similar to MAC’s Bravo except it has a pearl finish that makes it a great nighttime alternative. Blushed has a great sheen that’s still wearable and neutral. Not a huge fan of the scent but the color is pretty enough to get passed it.

Nuance Babies Breathe Pink* – If you’ve ever searched for the perfect baby pink lipstick, this is it. Honestly, I didn’t know if this color would work for me but it was honestly love at first swipe. The color is absolute perfection – it’s not too cool, so it doesn’t wash you out. BBP my go-to swipe and go color.

What are your favorite pink lipsticks?

sunburn city: 5 tips for dealing with sunburn

Sunburn, yuck! While sunburn is one of the major pitfalls of summer, it’s bound to happen to you at least once or twice in your lifetime. And even though I’m sunscreen obsessed, sunburn has plagued me more times than I’d care to admit this summer.

Stupidly on more than one occasion this summer, I’ve said screw it to sunscreen while laying by the pool or at the beach and I’ve been gifted with lobster red skin that’s left me in pain for days if not weeks.

Not only is sunburn horribly painful it’s ugly to look at. Now don’t think I’m being over dramatic, but I could be, when I say my sunburn this summer has been the worst I’ve ever experienced.

My first bout of sunburn left my calves burnt to a crisp, leaving me hardly able to walk and forcing to hobble around for nearly three weeks. Swelling, blisters, and extreme redness followed. Pretty sure I had sun poisoning. Sounds lovely, right?

Well since I didn’t learn my lesson the first time, I am currently blessed with my second helping of sunburn as I type this. Currently, my faces is 50 shades of red, with horrible dry patches making me look at least 20 years older. Super fun!

So since I’m the sunburn queen of the Summer of 2016 I thought it would only be fitting that I share my wisdom with you.

Tip 1: WEAR SUNSCREEN. Baz Lurman wasn’t lying when he said to wear sunscreen! Do it everyday, every time you’re in the sun. If you wear sunscreen properly, you won’t need the rest of my meandering advice.

All kidding aside, sunburn is no joke and can have long-term effects like premature aging, wrinkles, and even cancer.

Tip 2: Pop an ibprouphen, which has anti-inflammatory properties and will help with any pain, swelling, and redness. Also, hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Your skin is most likely severely dehydrated so drink up to help replenish your skin and help it to heal faster.

Tip 3: Take the sting out of your skin. There are dozens of rememdies out there to ease the sting of sunburn. Those include everything from rubbing tomatoes on your skin, bathing in oatmeal or tea, or placing milk-soaked wash cloths on your skin.

Tip 4: Slather on the Aloe. Aloe is your best friend, repeat after me. Aloe is your best friend. I keep mine in the fridge so it’s extra cold when I apply it.

Tip 5: Adjust your skincare. When dealing with sunburn you can’t just go about your normal skincare routine you must adjust. Right now I’m using a rotation of Garner Micellar Water as a cleaner since it’s so gentle, and First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream to help heal my skin.

To treat my skin further I’ve been using Leaders’ Get Rid of  Your Ex Skin-Cells sheet masks, which gently exfoliate the skin to remove all that dead sunburned skin. Followed by Leaders’ Too Much Fun In The Sun sheet mask which is calming and nourishing. These sheet masks and the the FAB cream are helping my skin heal so nicely.

*Sidenote: My sunburn was so bad I had to get microdermabrasion to get rid of all the peeling and dead skin cells. On the positive side of it my skin felt baby soft.

Chic Travels: Santorini Greece

Santorini, Greece is one of the most beautiful places in the world. With its blue skies and white buildings, the island is nothing but picturesque. I was lucky enough to get to spend some time visiting this beautiful island in June and every day there took my breath away. And let me tell you pictures don’t do the island justice because everything is more beautiful in person.

Besides the kind people, the delicious food, and the warm weather what I fell in love with the most while in Santorini was the sunsets. They are the most beautiful I’ve ever seen. Second, on my list, has to be white buildings that just jump out against the beautiful blue background of the cloudless skies.

During my time in Santorini, I stayed at Andromeda Villas which is a nice, small hotel that looks over the Caldera. The hotel is gorgeous, and the staff was incredibly kind. Plus Andromeda has an elevator which is something you grow to appreciate especially in Santorini 😉

Hopefully, my pictures inspire you to visit the island – trust me you won’t be disappointed.

Special shoutout to my friends Jess and Sean, if it wasn’t for their wedding, I’m not sure I would have been able to visit Santorini so soon. Thanks for letting check one more destination off my bucket list! xoxo

Behind the Beauty: Exclusive Interview RHONJ’s Melissa Gorga

Melissa Gorga

Real Housewives of New Jersey star Melissa Gorga is on display no matter if she’s in front of the camera or not.

With her good looks and glamorous style, Melissa is always fashionable and fresh faced.

So, what’s the secret behind her envious look? Well, Melissa was kind enough to spill her beauty secrets to me during a recent interview.

Have you always been into makeup?
Melissa Gorga: Actually, no. The truth is, the most makeup I wore before the show was mascara and lip gloss. I never left home without either of those. I also never used to have my makeup professionally done unless it was for an event, and I think being on the show has given me a whole new appreciation for it. When you are on TV, you have to wear a lot of makeup because the lights will end up drowning you out. When I first started the show, production would always tell me I didn’t have enough makeup on and to go put on more, so you really learn what works for TV and what doesn’t. And to be absolutely honest, Joe hates when I have my makeup done. He likes the natural look and loves when I go back to just mascara and lip gloss.

What’s your go-to everyday look?
MG: It would have to be a bronze-y eye, I think it really matches well with my skin tone, a baby pink cheek and nude lip. It is my go-to look.

What are your favorite beauty products?
MG: I have so many favorites! I never thought I would fall in love with makeup the way that I did. Highlighter is definitely one of my favorite products, my favorite right now is one from BECCA in Champagne Pop. I also have a Too Faced bronzer in chocolate that I love and my MAC Love Nectar lip gloss.

What’s the best beauty advice you’ve ever received? And the worst?
MG: The best advice I’ve gotten would have to be from a makeup artist in LA. She told me to put a little Argan oil on your face before foundation to help give your skin that creamy and smooth look.
The worst would have to be being told to put multiple, bright-colored eye shadows on my eyelids. That’s a big no-no!

Being a mom is busy job, how do you find time to take care of yourself?
MG: Right now its summer, it’s all about the kids, so there’s a lot less me time. Once the kids go back to school, I will drop them off and drive straight to the gym. I get an hour in and then I have the whole day to do what I have to do for that day. If I don’t head right there, I won’t go at all! LOL It’s not always easy with 3 kids under the age of 10, but it’s something you just have to figure out and find the balance. Joe and I always make a point to have one night of the week put aside for date night, too.

Let’s talk body. How do you stay so fit? Your body is the ENVY of so many!
MG: Thank you so much! I really appreciate that. I have to be honest, I think 50% is my genetics. The other 50% is definitely working really hard at the gym and eating right. I don’t believe in dieting, but I do believe in small portions throughout the day and eating every few hours. What some people don’t know is that I never sit. I am not one to sit and watch TV; I am constantly running around with my kids and having the boutique now just keeps me really active throughout the day.

If you could pick between flawless makeup or perfect hair days forever, which would you choose?
MG: Can I choose neither? LOL. I think I would have to go with flawless makeup because you can always put a hat on to cover a bad hair day.

When do you feel most beautiful?
MG: This might sound silly, but I really feel the most beautiful when I look natural. My hair is usually up in a bun, I have a little bit of makeup and a pair of sweatpants on.

 What’s your approach to aging?
MG: I do feel like as I’ve gotten older, I have become more comfortable in my skin and also in what I say. I used to really worry about what other people thought and not saying how I truly felt because I didn’t want to offend anyone. Now, I have learned to just speak what’s on my mind. The same thing goes for what I wear. I just feel more confident and I own it a lot more. I don’t care what other people think and that is so freeing.

Have you had any work done? We know Jac accuses you of having 4 nose jobs this season….not nice!
MG: I’ll clear that up as the show goes on, so keep watching!

Do you believe in fillers and non-surgical maintenance beauty?
MG: I do, I believe in doing what works for you and what makes you feel good because that is what matters. And as long as you do things in moderation, some people can get a little carried away if you know what I mean LOL

Any other beauty confessions you’d like to share?
MG: I’ve definitely learned less as more. Like Coco Chanel once said, “always remove one thing before you leave the house.”

HUGE thanks to Melissa for chatting with me! I’m excited to see how the drama plays out on RHONJ this season!

Which beauty secret of Melissa’s surprises you the most?

5 Stages of a bad manicure

Not to be dramatic, but there’s NOTHING worse than a bad manicure. I mean I go to the nail salon and pay someone to paint my nails, so they look good! If I wanted a crappy manicure I could have saved my money, stayed home, and illy painted my nails myself. Right?!?!

When you get a bad manicure, there are five stages of grieving that we need to discuss. I recently fell victim to not only a horrible manicure but a horrible pedicure as well. I was left with ugly nails and my wallet $50 lighter.

Oddly enough these gif’s detail the emotional process of dealing with a bad manicure.

1. Denial

2. Anger

3. Bargaining

4. Depression

simple skincare standouts

My current skincare routine can be summed up in one word: simple. I’ve been crazy busy lately and as much as I’d like it, I don’t have time for a complicated and multi-step routine. One and done is the theme in my routine these days.

While I may be too busy to have the skincare regime, I dream of its still important to me to take care of my skin. Nowadays I’m all about cleanse, exfoliate, hydrate and treat when needed.

For cleansing my trusty double-cleanse routine remains my go-to. I love Pond’s Cold Cream Cleanser, which is a fabulous makeup remover, that I follow up with First Aid Beauty’s Face Cleanser. If I’m super sleepy I’ll just run Garnier Micellar Water over my face a couple of times and go to bed. I do like this Micellar Water because it’s gentle but the only downside is it’s not the best at taking off eye makeup.

As for exfoliating I love Lush’s Ocean Salt and First Aid Beauty’s Facial Radiance Pads both offer simple, gentle yet effective exfoliation. Both work great on sensitive skin.

When I’m in a pinch, I love mixing my FAB Cleanser with my Ocean Salt scrub for a great two-for-one deal.

To hydrate my skin I slather on FAB’s Ultra Repair Cream which I gushed about here and here. If your too lazy 😉 to read my previous posts I’ll sum them up here. The Ultra Repair Cream is magnificent; it hydrates the skin and gets rid of any dry patches that might pop up. This cream literally saves my skin during the harsh winter months but still is light enough to use during the warmer weather months.

When my skin acts up I keep it simple and reach for two products – Lush’s Sacred Truth mask and Leader’s What Happened Last Night sheet mask. Both keep my skin in tip-top shape meaning it looks as good as it feels. Sheet masks are my go-to for not looking like a puffy, dehydrated mess. These gems are a godsend and I don’t know how I ever lived without them.

Sometimes a simple skincare routine outweighs a complicated, multi-step routine especially when time is of the essence. Some tips for simplifying skincare routine would be to cut out any excess, use only what your skin needs and reach for multi-tasking products as often as possible.

p.s. If you’re looking to try First Aid Beauty products this gift set trio is a favorite 😉

Warm (and rainy) weather has finally graced us with its presence, and while I could do without all the rain, there’s nothing better than a gorgeous warm spring day. The warm weather has me yearning for light colored clothing and glowing bronzed skin.

Rumor has it white bags will be all the rage this summer, so I suggest investing in one now. This gorgeous Tory Burch bag caught my eye because of its beautiful shape and simple design.

Also, months ago I purchased these Quay sunglasses, in the silver-blue color, and I’m so obsessed with them. I’ve been dying to pick up more sunglasses from their line ever since. Quay’s sunglasses are super fashionable, well fitting, and super affordable which is a win-win! But I also can’t get my mind off the blush Ray-Ban’s pictured up above. Decisions, decisions.

Sunnies and bags are the way to this girls heart 😉

Here are a few items that are inspiring me this week and that I may have to call my own very soon!

Current Haircare Favorites

haircare favorites

Haircare is always a struggle for me, I mean so many products so little time, right? For the last few years, my haircare routine has been made up of mostly high-end products which has kept me out of the drugstore haircare loop. I’ve recently stumbled upon some pretty amazing drugstore haircare products that I think are worthy of your time. While I’m not, nor will I ever be, fully converted to only using drugstore haircare products I find the balance between using high and low-end products refreshing.

Currently, I’m obsessed with quite a few incredible hair care products ranging from shampoos and conditioners to styling products and leave in treatments.

So what are these AHA-mazing products I’m itching to gush about?

Why I’m so glad, you asked!

Let’s get to the drugstore products first then we’ll move on to the fancier stuff.

Now I don’t say this lightly but L’Oréal’s Total Repair 5 is one of the best hair care lines available at the drugstore. Honestly, I was blown away the first time I used this line. With drugstore and some high end, haircare products the first wash is the best then the amazingness of the product(s) diminishes but with the Total Repair 5 line the last wash is as good as the first. This is good stuff guys, so I HIGHLY recommend you grab it up.

The high-end products in my hair care routine are just as awesome. Another shampoo I’m loving is Big by Lush, which is a product I’ve read rave reviews on for years but never tried. First off this stuff smells divine, like a yummy salty-lime margarita. It gives thin hair a ton of volume and since it’s literally pure salt it gently exfoliates the scalp while giving loads of texture to the roots of your hair.

One of my go-to products for years has been Redken’s Anti-Snap, which is a leave in repair treatment. I’ve been using Anti-Snap since high school, and it never does me wrong. It smells so good and is just a great lightweight leave-in product that protects my hair against breakage.

Another new to me product is Living Proof’s Perfect Hair Day 5-in-1 Styling Treatment which lives up to each ounce of hype it’s ever received. This product cuts my hair styling time in half and takes all the fuss out of my pre-blowout hair routine. Winning.

While I suggest you run out and try all of these products ASAP, I know that not realistic. Honestly one thing to take away from this post is that when you switch things up, you find some pretty incredible gems in the process 🙂

What are your current haircare faves?
